Red Bull takes It Gives You Wings to interstellar next level

Articles, April 1st 2010 by Mathieu

For years now, Red Bull uses the theme It gives you wings. And for years they’ve been coming up with campaigns and events to claim this theme. Some spot on, others far fetched.

The Red Bull Stratos project hits the nail right on the head.

Red Bull Stratos is a project that’s been in the making for three years now. The goal; To achieve the first human freefall from the edge of space, an altitude of 23 miles. And by doing so, breaking the sound barrier and reaching supersonic speeds.

The man for the job is Felix Baumgartner, one of the world’s most notorious skydivers and base-jumpers, who is guided by the one man who parachuted to earth from an altitude of 20 miles and landed safely, former USAF colonel Joe Kittinger.

The cool thing is, Red Bull actually put together a team of leading researchers and scientists to literally give Baumgartner the wings he need. And not only are they breaking one of the most extreme records known to man, they’re actually gathering scientific test results while doing so.

To me, a perfect and truly inspiring way to bring the Red Bull brand to life.

Go see Art & Copy

Articles, News, March 24th 2010 by Mathieu

Last Thursday some of us went to see the documentary Art & Copy, by Doug Pray. The film takes you behind the scenes of some the most influential ad agencies worldwide and shows the different types of visons their creators have on advertising.

The film shows some of the true gems of American and sometimes worldwide advertising from early sixties to present time. A great way to get reacquainted with these iconic campaigns and their makers and be reminded what makes up a great creative.

A must see if you’re into advertising. Now showing at the Smart project Space in Amsterdam.

3D Printing. Good stuff

Articles, March 16th 2010 by Mathieu

3d printing has been gaining a lot of attention the last couple of years. The technique is starting to become to be more affordable and easy to use and the amount of materials that can be used is increasing. Even metallic powder can nowadays be used to produce items with.

An inspiring example is this pair of one piece, laser printed shoes. The shoes were designed and modelled by Naim Josefi and Souzan Youssouf, two Stockholm design school students and shown for Naim’s Melonia collection, which was show during the last edition of Stockholm Fashion Week. Quite an organic take on shoe design.

Eurobest day 3: Adverting is dead and there’s no more money to make

Articles, November 27th 2009 by 105

If we hadn’t known better, this would have been a very depressing day. Today we had to face the facts.
Yesterday the message was to learn from your mistakes. Today’s sessions take this one step further. We learn what we have to do to survive in the advertising industry. Years ago agency had so much money; today’s reality is completely different. This forces us to be more creative in the solutions we come up with. Not to our surprise digital media play an important part in them. However, we saw a lot of examples of concepts that were brilliant, but the execution technically too complex for consumers to understand.
Creatives need to stick to the basics and think simple. All ideas should keep the consumer in mind: how much effort do they want to put in interaction with a brand. An important factor to answer that question depends on the reward consumers can expect in return.
Ones we keep that in mind, we will probably drink more Champaign again, instead of lemonade.

Easy ironing

Work, November 27th 2009 by 105

Challenge
Nibro ironing products have a new packaging design. A good reason to re-launch the product in the Dutch market.

Solution
Ironing is a very hard job for most people. In fact people don’t want to iron at all. To help them achieve this Nibro started the initiative “Easy Ironing” (strijkgemak in Dutch). At the online platform you can find useful tips, read about Nibro ironing products and have the chance to win an ironing lady for a whole year.
To drive traffic to the website we used a mix of traditional and non-traditional media. The main drivers were the viral video, the live Twitter-conversations and the Nibro Ironing Top 3 broadcasted at 100%NL radio station.

Although ironing is a very lonely activity, the website was very sociable: all pieces of content could easily be shared with your friends at Hyves, Facebook and Twitter. Visit the website
